Take it Further Challenge

Here's what I did with the fabrics I selected for the April Take it Further Challenge...And now to the design wall...The quit top is done...The "sandwich" is ready. Now I have to find some oriental inspiration to embellish it.

I know it's spring...

I spent some time today thinking about Sharon's Take it Further challenge for April. I'm going to work with the palette this time. But I must say this looks very dark on my monitor... I looked at the source picture from China, and searched my dyed fabrics to find similar colours. I came up with these...
I'm going to make a small quilt.

Take it Further

For the Take it Further challenge of March, I played with PSP and my picture of lichen. I saved this image...
and this one...
Then I remembered a picture of droplets that I took some time ago in my garden...
After a little colour play, it became this...
I think I'm going to use it for the TiF challenge, as soon as I'm finished with my Twelve by Twelve quilts.

A green weekend

We spent the last weekend in the Belgian Ardennes. The weather was far from perfect, but we tried to be outdoors as much as possible. On the other hand, the food was very good. We ate too much... I gained two pounds in two days (but I lost more than that yesterday and today, so I don't really care.)
And I took many pictures of moss, leaves, trees, walls, and the usual funny things. I think I could use one of these photos as a starting point for the Take it Further challenge of March... "Pay attention to the little details", taken literally.
Today I'm working on my 12x12 quilt, at least on its design. I blogged about it on the Twelve by Twelve blog.

Take it Further challenge

I played a little more with my digital pictures and with the colour palette from the February TiF challenge, and I finally chose to try and interpret this image. I did print it on several different papers and also on fabric. But I'm still thinking of using my needlefelting machine instead.

Sharon has posted her February Take it Further Challenge here. I went for the colour palette again, and played a little with two of my digital pictures.
I think the first image could be translated into a small quilt, but I'm not sure this is the kind of thing I would like to make.
Maybe I could interpret the second image with my needlefelting machine... What do you think?

Take it Further challenge

My piece for the January Take it Further challenge is finished. I just added a little hand stitching to the layered image. It didn't ask for more, I think.

A sunny day

Today is a bright and sunny day. At last! It's rather cold also, but I don't mind.
My chocolate 12x12 quilt is almost finished. Not sure I really like it, as usual. But I won't make another one. My sewing machine has to go to the doctor next week for a little checkup.
In the meantime, I need to finish my TiF January challenge. I've tried a few other surfaces for printing my landscape. Some worked well, some not so well... but I forgot to photograph them. Anyway, I'm going to concentrate on the organza landscape.

Take it further

Some progress on the Take it Further challenge front...
I printed two of my digital images on organza, then layered them on homedyed fabric. It must be almost impossible to take good pictures of this. Here is the best I could do today...

The next step is to embroider these.

I also want to try at least another technique for transfering the images on fabric. More on this later...

Take it Further challenge

Sharon has revealed her January challenge. The key concept is the "feeling of admiration". I first thought of public people. Ok... I know which famous people I admire and why. Then I thought about qualities I admire in ordinary people... These are kindness, honesty, courage and a good sense of humour... There are lots of potential ideas in these words...
But I decided I didn't have the time this month to work on yet another concept... I still have to do my "chocolate" 12 by 12 quilt, and, believe me, it isn't easy...
So, I chose the colour scheme option, which is this: I played with Paint Shop Pro, trying several brushes and effects. Here are a few samples of what I got...



Then this morning, I looked through my pictures, picked this one I took some time ago, and after a little playtime, I ended up with this image which I rather like...
