More Colorplay

This week, I plan to work on my small Colorplay fabric book, and at least try to finish the missing pages.

All my fabric leftovers were already nicely sorted by palette in little boxes, but of course, as my quilts are now living their own life in the States, I don't have them here anymore to help me in my work. So, I printed their pictures.
I did the "Brown Sage Blue" page a few days ago.
Now I've got the first eight pages. Only four more to do.
I feel I have to finish this before starting on the new Twelve by Twelve series. You might already know that we have decided to continue our collaboration but to change the size of our quilts. They will be 20 by 12 inches (vertical orientation). Gerrie has already chosen the first theme. It is "Metamorphosis".

This is my page for Emmy. The theme of her fabric book was "green and blue".

A fabric book page

This is my fabric book page for Dianne.I made it with the needlefelting machine. There's no stitching. I simply felted wool fibers and threads onto a cotton fabric background.

Actually, it is my page for Terri's fabric book. Here's a detail... And this is the back of the page... Terri, I've dyed this green fabric especially for you!

Tsuki

This my page for Kim's fabric book. It's 9" by 9". Kim has chosen "the symbols associated with celestial bodies" as her theme. Tsuki is the kanji for moon. Now, I'm going to make a smaller quilt (6" by 6"), with the same kanji, but just for me!

Fabric book page

This is the page I made for Mags. Her book theme is "curves". And she asked for the colours red, orange and yellow, and for a black background. I had many ideas of curves I could use for her page, and I really had a hard time deciding. One day, while doodling, I drew a question mark... And that was it! I knew what to do...

Purple fabric book page

This page will be for Sue. It's 9'' by 9'', but you see a little less than this on the picture.
I needlefelted wool on homedyed fabric. There are also some silk fibers and organza in this needlefelt. The textured material on top is tyvek. I ironed it, then painted and embroidered it
Tyvek is also this month challenge at FiberArtFriends.

Creamy fabric book page

This is my page for Carol's fabric book. Her theme is "just creamy". I started with a few small hand embroideries on calico, cut them into little patches, stitched these on a thicker cotton fabric, and added pieces of lace... Then, what else could I do?... I decided to dip the whole piece in black tea... The resulting colour was not very exciting. I sponged some very light ochre paint on it. Pfff!... It looked awful... I dipped it again in tea (lichees tea this time). It smelled delicious, but then the fabric became too dark! I was getting nervous, thinking of throwing the piece in the garbage and of starting all over.
The next day, I painted bleach on the piece... Great! The brownish colour disappeared. Only a few little darker patches were visible. I let the piece dry. At that point, I was very tempted to paint it with bright colours, but Carol wanted something white or cream or beige...
I then glued a sheet of tissue paper on my work, scratched the wet paper to let the embroidery show, painted the paper with white acrylic, added a few little pieces of gauze, dabbed some gold paint, and finished the piece with machine stitching... Et voilà!
It's not that bad after all...
Now, I'm looking forward to working on something a bit more straightforward for a few days!

Fabric book page

This is the page I did for Sarah.
Her book theme is "A woman's job is never done". Well, taking care of the garden is one of my many jobs. I usually enjoy it. But last year, the gods were against me. Spring was awful, July was too hot, August was too rainy... DH kept saying: "The garden is beautiful, it looks like wilderness... I love it..."
Yes, but now, my garden is a mess... Up to now, we haven't had any frost. And the weeds are thriving...

Fabric book

Starting in January, I'm going to have a fabric book page swap with some of my FiberArtFriends.
This will be the front cover of my fabric book. I'll probably quilt it later, but it doesn't have a backing yet, simply because I don't know yet how I'll bind my book pages.
The theme of my book will be "Writing systems, past and present".
