TAST - Buttonhole stitch

This week at Take a Stitch Tuesday, the challenge is to explore the buttonhole stitch. This is a detail of a sample I did when I was studying with the Open College of the Arts. It was inspired by the work of Jan Beaney who is one of the masters of free surface stitchery.
Today, I worked on a postcard. I used variegated cotton thread by Caron. Now, I'm going to add more stitches to it, but with thinner threads. Maybe I'll do some beading too.

Pretty. QuiltingArts had something years ago where the artist layered lots of button hole stitch in lots of different threads until the fabric was completely covered. It was quite interesting.
