Rust dyeing

When I dyed my blue fabric the other day, the clamps started to rust slightly. Happily, there were no rust spots on my fabrics. But I thought I should have a try at rust dyeing... I wrapped some nails in a wet light orange fabric, put everything in a plastic bag and forgot about it for a few days, almost a week actually. This is the result.

I think it's interesting... Instead of collecting sea shells and driftwood, I am going to look for rusting objects on the beach this year. But then I'll need to wear rubber gloves while beachcombing... not sure DH will like this...

Your work is always inspiring and exciting......I'm a beachcomber too! Can hardly leave a thing behind. But rust dying? interesting and intriquing.

There is a lady on 'Rust-Tex' blog who specializes in this type of fabric colouring, you may like to have a look.

Am totally intrigued by the effects of rust dying? Will have to become a beech comber too....what fun. It is never to late to learn. I am interested to know which part of Belgium you are from.
